From 7:00 to 8:30pm

At the Athens Public Library, 30 Home Street, Athens

Every year we dedicate one meeting to the sharing of birth stories. Whether your children were born last week or a decade ago, we invite you to share your story or just sit and listen to others. All backgrounds, experiences and choices are honored at all Birth Circle events.

A big thanks to our April Monthly Meeting Sponsor:  The Buckeye Trail Association

The BTA and our local Little Cities of the Forest Chapter would like to invite you and your family to challenge yourselves to your first camp out!  We’ve organized everything for you to help introduce you to hiking and backpacking.  Our 6th Annual Emma ‘Grandma’ Gatewood Solstice (EGGS) Hike + Campout is based out of the Burr Oak State Park Group Camp at Dock #3 from June 18-21.  You’re invited to join us Saturday June 20th for a full day of family friendly activities including a birding hike, introduction to kayaking, firefly citizen science, astronomy and campfire.  If a member of your family would like to challenge them self on the EGGS Hike – a 20/40/60/80 mile hike in 12/24/36/48 hours around Burr Oak Lake and Wildcat Hollow, be our guest!  Otherwise all activities are free and optional with plenty of down time to set up camp and try your cooking skills.  There is a small requested donation of $5/tent/night for camping.

Check out our website and facebook page  Contact EGGS Hike Organizer Byron Guy with further questions.

At The Plains Library

The Plains Library is offering a free series of prenatal yoga classes each Friday, beginning March 27 thru April 24 at 11:00am. This will be a series of 5 classes presented by Kristen Wade E-RYT200, who has specialized training in prenatal and children’s yoga. As well as yoga, there will be handouts of songs and rhymes each week provided by Children’s Librarian, Betty Ranck. If you have preschool age children they are invited to attend and take part in activities provided by Betty during the class. This is a wonderful opportunity to relax for an hour each week and meet other young mothers. Learn how you can enrich the lives of your children by sharing books and how the library can help.

Following this series there will be a special luncheon for parents to learn about Early Literacy. There will be free books for all attendees. The Early Literacy Luncheon will take place May 1 @ 11:00.

Raising Awareness of Midwifery in Appalachian Ohio

In 2010 The Birth Circle received a grant from The Foundation for the Advancement of Midwifery, for our project, “Raising Awareness of Midwifery in Appalachian Ohio.” One aspect of the project was to give a free copy of Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth to pregnant Birth Circle attendees. Here some of them share how the book affected their hopes, choices and birth experiences.
